Updates to yard waste and bulk trash

New Bulk Trash Clean-Up and Collection Policy
Free Bulk Trash Pickup - Annually during the last two weeks of Apr. and Oct.

Each household is permitted only one free bolt trash pickup during the allotted times in April and October.

Collection occurs on your regularly scheduled trash day or Public Works convenience.

Free collection is limited to six individual items.

Items for collection should be placed where you normally leave your trash.

Items should not be placed along the road for free pickup any earlier than two days prior to the allotted pickup time.

When placing appliances for pickup, please be sure to remove all doors.

There is no need to notify Town Hall.

Collection of bulk trash does not include:

  • Construction material
  • Hazardous materials
  • Paints or explosives
  • Limbs (branches may be picked up but, must be cut to five-foot lengths, bundled, and no larger than three inches in diameter

DID YOU KNOW?
Bulk trash may be picked up throughout the year at the discretion of the Public Works Director. Fees for bulk trash removal are based on the volume of trash. There is a minimum base fee of $50. If you would like to take advantage of this service please call Town Hall at (302) 539-8011, to make arrangements.

YARD WASTE ORDINANCE UPDATE
Pickup occurs every Tuesday year-round.

We have updated our yard waste policy to convey the intent of the yard waste pick-up service more clearly.

Brush piles should be tied in bundles, no longer than five feet in length, and small enough and light enough for one individual to handle.

Grass Clippings must be placed in recyclable paper yard waste bags or in containers 32 gallons or less that are clearly marked as yard waste on the outside of the container. Filled containers and recyclable bags shall not weigh more than 50 pounds.

Leaves must be placed in Recyclable paper yard waste bags or in containers 32 gallons or less that are clearly marked as yard waste on the outside of the container. Filled containers and recyclable bags shall not weigh more than 50 pounds.

Limbs and tree trimmings must not be longer than 5 ft in length and no larger than 3 in in diameter. Limbs should be tied together and separated into bundles small enough and light enough for one individual to handle.

Logs are no longer permitted in yard waste.

We happily accept:

  • Grass clipping and leaves
  • Limbs and tree trimmings
  • Plants, weeds, and shrubbery

We cannot accept:

  • Dirt and rocks
  • Treated lumber and wood
  • Tree stumps and tree trunks
  • Logs
  • Any yard waste in plastic bags
